  • I have mapped the Gulf
  • In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered the West Indies or new world. He did not find a faster route to India, but he did open up a new world to Europe.
  • Cabeza De Vaca
  • I have found the 7 cities of gold!
  • In 1521 Hernando Cortez conquered the Aztecs, and became the first ¨governor¨ of a New Spain (Mexico). He was exploring to get GOLD, GLORY and GOD for Spain.  He inspired others to explore more territory of North America.

  • In 1519 Pineda mapped our coast (Texas History began). The governor of Jamaica ordered Pineda to explore this new area in order to find a route to the Pacific. He mapped the Coast, but did not find a route to the Pacific.

  • We do not know where the Mississippi River is. Are we lost?
  • In 1528-1536 Cabeza De Vaca was stranded in North America. They had a shipwreck (looking for gold in Florida, Narvaes was killed). They failed to get gold and meet the Karwankawa, he was the first explorer, 1st author iwith relacion in Texas. He found the 7 cities of gold (Pueblo abobe homes) and led to more expedition.
  • In 1540-1542 Cornado finds the Great Plains. Cornado was trying to search for the 7 cities of gold (Quiviera and Cibola). He did did not find the 7 cities of gold no settlements crossed the ¨Sea of grass¨ (Texas Panhandle) He impacted Texas by telling stories about buffalo, villages, Texas land in the Panhandle.
  • In 1685-1687 La Salle was a french explorer He explored the Great Lakes region of the United States and Canada, the Mississippi River, and the Gulf of Mexico. He claimed the entire Mississippi River basin for France. He got lost while looking for the Mississippi River , but got murdered by his own men. The spanish got more serious about settling Texas and not just exploring it.
