  • Even though the British won the French Indian war, it was still very expensive. Because of the Expenditures during the French Indian War, they started to tax the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre
  • The Sugar act was one of the first taxes the colonies had to deal with. It disrupted the economy by increasing the cost of imported items. Because of the Increase of smuggling, the British started to become more strict.
  • Intolerable Acts
  • The legislation levied a direct tax on all materials printed for commercial and legal use. It stirred a storm of protest in the colonies. In retaliation, the British governed over them ever harder.
  • Common Sense
  • A group of colonist started harassing some soldiers one day. The soldiers shot into the crowd, killing 5 people. After this, the tension in Boston was at an all time high.
  • Fire!
  • The Intolerable Acts were punitive laws passed by the British after the Boston Tea Party. The laws were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their defiance. This heightened Tensions between the Colonists and the British.
  • "Common Sense" was a book by Thomas Paine to unite the Colonies. In his book he explains that he want to become more independent from Britain. His book was a big hit and strengthened the bond of the colonies and put the idea of revolution int the heads of the people.
