Family units would share their feelings and dreams at meal times. Jonas was scared for December to come because he was nervous to become a twelve. Jonas's family unit started taking care of a baby who was going to be released.
Jonas started noticing changes on an apple, Fiona's hair and the audience. When it was time for the ceremony the Chief Elder has skipped over Jonas's number. When Jonas finally got his turned he found out he had been selected not assigned to be the new receiver of memory.
Jonas started his training and learned that the changes he was seeing was colour. Jonas learned about true feelings like, loneliness, love, happiness, fear, pain, and sadness. Jonas learned about what release actually was and realized how bad release really is. He learned that no one else can feel true feelings. Jonas decided to stop taking his pills so we would be able to feel true feelings.
Jonas and The Giver started making plans for Jonas to leave the community so the memories would be shared out to the community. The Giver has to stay back so he could help the community when the memories got out.
Jonas's father told Jonas that he was going to have to release Gabe. Jonas had to make a quick new plan to leave early and take Gabe with him out of the community.
Jonas and Gabe left late at night out of the community. They had seen so many new things like real life animals, trees, rain, snow, all sorts of things. But Jonas and Gabe came across the cold winter. Jonas could barely make it up the hill. Once they finally did there was a sled just like the one The Giver showed Jonas. Jonas and Gabe went down the sled and found a house at the bottom of the hill just like Jonas's favourite memory.
