I've won battles against the Union where I've been heavily outnumbered. If we can win on Northern soil, the fighting spirit of the Union will surely be crushed and England will recognize the Confederacy

Union General George G. Mead's troops and the Confederate raiding party began fighting on July 1, 1863. The Union forces had the best defensive position on top of Cemetary Ridge and Culp's Hill
On the third day of battle, Confederate General George Pickett tried and failed to attack Cemetary Ridge in what became known as Pickett's charge. There was a total of 51,000 casualties on both sides, but the Union claimed the victory. The Confederacy would never again attack in the North, and many recognized this as a significant turning point in the war.
