  • In school children were taught literature, science, math, and politics. 
  • Only boys went to school. They were also taught to read and write.
  • Boys in Sparta were allowed to enter military school when they were six.  
  • School in Greece had many aspects of daily life. While today people never teach taxes. The main point behind school was to maintain a powerful army. 
  • Sparta believed strong women produced strong babies. 
  •  Girls also went to school, sometimes if they were allowed by their parents.  Girls also joined the army. 
  • If girls did not go to school, they were taught by their mothers. 
  • This is older than most kids these days. Who start school at the age of five.  
  • Mothers also taught their daughters to how to cook and run a household. 
  • School for girls weren't as bad as boys, but they learned how to handle a weapon, fist fight, and could wrestle. 
  • The mothers' that could read and write taught their girls to read and write also. 
  • Boys were taught to read and write, but those skills were not as important as fighting.
