New Mexicans ate a lot of sheep and cattle. Sheep was the number one form of livestock raised in New mexico. After the Civil war cattle ranching was very important because there was great demand for beef throughout the territory and the nation.
It was the first railroad to build tracks in New Mexico and there was many parts that have connected to the tracks. Then as a result more people and more jobs came to the territory. The trains had helped the ranchers a lot because it brought equipment for the farms.
Explorers searched for gold and silver since the 1540's. During the years that the explorers where searching for the gold and silver,they have only found a little of it. Gold mining increased and since people thought that there was actually gold, they went searching for some but didn't find anything.
Harvey Houses were mostly made for the people that were on the Santa Fe railroad to stay over night. The Harvey houses provided good food and good prices for the people that were working on the railroad. The Harvey Houses helped the people that were on the trains because they would probably not have a place to stay so they stayed at the harvey houses.
When people built the railroads it has made people get attracted to all the places around New Mexico. The railroads in New Mexico is the largest new businesses because it got so many people's attention by taking a ride on the train and taking pictures of all the different places. A lot of people actually liked the idea but some didn't because they thought it was ugly.
In the Wild West it was full of outlaws, guns, crime, and violence. Many people stole cattle from ranchers and gold and silver from miners.
