Everyone turned on Les as soon as his car suddenly turned on.
People thought that Goodman was guilty because he has insomnia.
People thought that Steve was working on a radio to talk to aliens because he spends a lot of time in his basement.
The reason why I think the theme is "fear and suspicion can break bonds" is because everyone was okay with each other before the chaos was unleashed and everyone started turning on each other out of fear. For example, on Act 1, page 574, it shows where everyone turned on Les as soon as his car suddenly turned on by itself. On Act 1, page 675, people thought that Goodman was guilty of being the "monster" just because his car suddenly turned on by itself. Finally, on Act 2, page 677, Steve was the one that people thought was guilty of being the monster because he spent a lot of time working in the basement on a radio that the people thought he was working on to talk to aliens. To conclude, being afraid and being suspicious of the ones on your side can break important bonds.
