This took place on January 21st, 1793 in Paris, France. The National Convention decided to convict the king in a near-unanimous vote and condemn him to death by the majority. He was executed by use of the guillotine.

The Reign of Terror is the label given by most historians to a period when the First French Republic was established. It began around 1793 and ended around summer of 1794. Approximately 16,00 people died and 2,00 of them were from Paris.
After 12 years of constant warfare, Europe was looking to establish long-lasting peace and stability on the continent after the defeat of Napoleon. They had a goal for the new European order: A collective security and stability of the entire continent. Europe wanted to restore a balance of power. A series of meetings were held in Vienna, known as the Congress of Vienna. These meeting were called because to set up policies to achieve the goal of security and stability of Europe. They did not want the meetings to last long. They set a date for around 4 weeks. It went on for 8 months. The Congress of Vienna had several political triumphs. For the first time ever, nations of countries of an entire continent cooperated.
In the wake of the French Revolution, younger Napoleon Bonaparte began a meteoric rise to power. During the early French Revolution, he went up the ranks to a military general for 10 years. Then seizing political power in 1799 to eventually crowning himself emperor in 1804.
Napoleons Downfall was in 1810 when Russia withdrew from the Continental System. In the act of retaliation, Napoleon led a massive army into Russia in the summer of 1812. People from other countries including Italy and Germany encouraged this.
