  •         In the story Monster Are Due on Maple Street, there is many cases where the theme fear and suspicion are destructive forces is proven. Mr. Goodman explains this when he states, "Wait a minute now. You keep your distance all of you." Mr. Goodman is going crazy with accusation and suspicion. He is angered by the others from their sudden mistrust in him and his family and he seems to feel betrayed. The second moment the theme was expressed was when Don suggest his input to the group. He says, "It's just that...well...Myra's talked about how there's been plenty of nights you spend hours down in your basement." This quote shows that even a friend, Don and Charlie, single out Steve and describe his actions. Also, Don and Charlie both make Steve sound suspicious from just going down in his basement creating a radio set. Lastly, the  final moment where the theme was shown was when Charlie said, "No... no... it's nothing of the sort! I don't know why the lights are own. I swear I don't. Somebody's pulling a gag on me or something." The fact that Charlie  is scared of his neighbors shows that destruction had occurred and something is wrong with the trust and friendship. The theme seems to communicate well with the story because it has many  sections that support which indicates it could be true.
