In December of 1776, 4,000 Americans surprised 1,400 Germans when they marched into Trenton. This victory and the battle at Princeton gave hope to the Americans.
In October 1777, British troops marched to Saratoga Springs to fight the colonists, however reinforcements from New York didn't get there in time. This forced British General Burgoyne to surrender, making a turning point in the revolution, as France was now on the Colonist's side.
The battle of Yorktown began on October 6th and lasted 2 weeks. 16,000 troops consisting of American and French soldiers surrounded Britain's army of 8,000. American and British signed the Treaty of Paris. This was the last battle in the war and a victory for America.
