Arthur's purpose: In the late 19th century, women did not have rights or jobs, most of their lives were in the house, they had to follow and depend on their husband. The author was trying to tell the audiences the actual feeling of a woman who was a regular housewife---- she was limited and dominated by her husband through she loved him. Mrs. Mallard is a house wife which is considered the one who lived in a fortune life traditionally, she has a nice house, a good husband and everything expert for freedom and happiness. However, after her husband "died" she felt free for body and soul.
Figurative "There was a feverish triumph in her eyes, and she carried herself unwittingly like a goddess of Victory. " The author compared Mrs. Mallard to the goddess of victory to show her feeling of being free.

She has a heart attacked when she saw her husband comes home alive.
