Alfred Wegener Project

Storyboard Text

  • Many of you have been wondering about Alfred Wegener and Pangaea. Pangaea was a supercontinent made up of all of the continents we know today. It existed about 335 million years ago, and it began to break apart into today's continents about 175 million years ago.
  • But Ms. Hartman, how do we know that Alfred Wegener's theory was even possible? How do we know Pangaea is real?
  • Good Question! Well Leah, there are many reasons why Alfred Wegeners theory is true.
  • For one, you can look at the way that the continents are shaped.
  • Do you see how the coast of Africa and the coast of South America seem to fit together like a puzzle? You can observe the same thing happening on the coast of North America and Africa.
  • Doesn't it seem like Africa could fit in that gap between the top of South America and the bottom of North America? That's because a long time ago, Africa did fit in that gap, millions of years ago.
