Storyboard Text

  • Please come out your grave Mr. Lewis. I want to talk about ionic bonding and the Lewis Dot structure.
  • GILBERT N. LEWIS1875 - 1946
  • What do you want to know?
  • GILBERT N. LEWIS1875 - 1946
  • Anything!
  • Well, I can tell you this. An ion is a particle that has lost or gained electrons. An ionic bond is the bonding between a non-metal and a metal.
  • GILBERT N. LEWIS1875 - 1946
  • That is great! What are cations and anions?
  • GILBERT N. LEWIS1875 - 1946
  • Cations are ions with a positive charge. Anions are ions with a negative charge.
  • It all makes sense. How does your famous dot structure connect to all of this? I am still confused on why your dot structure is so important.
  • My dot structure is a molecule's structural depiction in which dots represent electron locations surrounding the atoms and lines or dot pairs represent covalent interactions between atoms.
  • GILBERT N. LEWIS1875 - 1946
  • Thank you for explaining! Bye!
  • GILBERT N. LEWIS1875 - 1946
  • No problem! Bye!
