  • The Punic Wars 264 BCE to 146 BCE
  • After a long fight against a strong navy, Rome was able to break the Carthaginians naval superiority.
  • Hey! Did you hear about what happened over at sea?
  • The First Punic War (264-241 BCE)
  • Yeah, apparently after 23 years of fighting, we finally won a battle against the Carthaginians.
  • A surprise attack on Rome by Hannibal, a leader for the Carthaginians, led to a large number of deaths in the Roman army.  
  • I don't know how Hannibal was able to pull that victory from us.
  • The Second Punic War (218-201 BCE)
  • We had an army twice the size of theirs, yet they killed so many people.
  • After a difficult defeat, Rome came to Northern Africa to beat Carthage. 
  • We're back
  • The Second Punic War (218-201 BCE)
  • Fine you win
  • After being led by a new leader, Rome fought and killed many people in Carthage, so the people were forced to surrender over there.
  • Time to kill all of your people!
  • The Third Punic War (149-146 BCE)
  • No! We surrender.
  • Effects the war had on Rome -Rome expanded a large amount -More naval power -Became the most powerful nation in the Mediterranean
  • Effects the war had on Carthage -Lost lots of military power -No longer had lots of naval power -Carthage was  destroyed
