  • 3rd Estate: Before the revolution there were three estates. The third estate consisted of workers, peasants, and servants. They made up about 97% of the population and owned 70% percent of land. The third estate carried the 2nd and 3rd because they did all the work such as farming and building. They were treated horribly by the 2nd and 3rd estates.
  • 2nd Estate:The second estate were the nobles and aristocrats. They made up about 2% of thepopulation and owned 20% of land. Jobs for the second estate were top places in government, army, and the courts. They were wealthier and were treated better than the third estate. The second estate had some privileges and a higher status too.
  • 1st Estate:The third estate was mostly clergy members of the church. They are about 1% of the population and owned 10% of land. They were the higher class people and didn't have to pay taxes. Most were very wealthy and received many privileges. There were poor priests that worked liked servants but mainly wealthy people of the church.
