Storyboard Text

  • Alright kids, today we are going to talk about uniform circular motion! This is the motion of an object in a circle at a constant speed.
  • Uniform Circular Motion
  • I love everything about science!
  • Ugh, I hate learning
  • Yay! I'm super excited!
  • Starting off with the basics, we will learn about centripetal force and acceleration, tangential velocity, and circumference! Each one of you is going to study one of the topics and present your findings to the class.
  • Uniform Circular Motion
  • I am centripetal force and acceleration. Centripetal force is the force that pulls the object into a circular path rather than a straight path.
  • Centripetal acceleration is the acceleration of the object undergoing uniform circular motion.
  • I am tangential velocity. I am the velocity measure at a point tangent to any point on a turning circular object. For example, if you took a point on a spinning ferris wheel you could find the tangential velocity!
  • I am circumference. Circumference is the distance traveled by an object one time around the circle. If I wanted to find the circumference of this igloo I would walk around it once and see how far it was!
