A Roman girl, Aurelia, is asked by her mother to get bread from the market. On her way out, Aurelia meets her best friend, Cyrus, and they talk about the earthquake that had happened the previous night.
Suddenly, the mountain in the distance erupts in a cloud of ash and smoldering smoke. The city of Pompeii is taken by complete surprise as houses begin falling and molten lava starts pouring down the mountain towards them.
As Cyrus and Aurelia are running around the city, trying to get to the boating docks for escape, Aurelia sees a young girl trapped under a fallen house.
As the first bits of lava pour into the city, Aurelia tries to rescue the little girl, with Cyrus urging her to just run so they can escape.
Aurelia pulls the girl out with some help from Cyrus and they race to the boating docks and hop onto a ship as clouds of thick ash fill the air and smoldering magma fill the town.
The ship makes it out of the town just befores lava blocks their path, narrowly missing death. Aurelia, Cyrus, the little girl, and the other townspeople on the ship watch with tear-streaked faces as the town burns.
