"Sorry the Ethiopia Camp is about to shut down. The new government won't be welcoming foreign aid workers."
In 1985 at the Ethiopia Refuge Camp Salva calls out to a woman he thought was his mother. He realizes that his Uncle was trying to "hint" that his family was dead.
He doesn't know how he can survive without his family but he has to go on anyways.
July 1991, 6 years later...the refuge camp in Ethiopia is about to shut down. Salva found out from camp workers that Ethiopia's government is almost collapsing and the new government won't be welcoming foreign aid workers.
Then soldiers show up, telling everyone they have to leave Ethiopia itself.
The soldiers force everyone with guns towards the Gilo River that heads towards Sudan. Salva knows the river is dangerous with currents and crocidiles.
