- In the beginning of this story soldiers are facing Anna and her families house because In 1838 and 1839, as part of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy, the Cherokee nation was forced to give up its lands east of the Mississippi River and to migrate to an area in present-day Oklahoma. The Cherokee people called this journey the "Trail of Tears," because of its devastating effects.

- Anna and her family had got forced to walk 5,045 miles to Oklahoma because The Cherokee Trail of Tears resulted from the enforcement of the Treaty of New Echota, an agreement signed under the provisions of the Indian Removal Act of 1830, which exchanged Indian land in the East for lands west of the Mississippi River
- Alex gets sick with Dysentery
- I don't feel so well

- While they were on the trail the soldiers had made people be held at gunpoint and had no shoes nor clothes or food and they were cold
- Alex dies

- The rain had got many people sick but hopefully it stopped and the soldiers let Anna and her family and everyone else sit by a bonfire and eat a warm meal.

- After the bonfire and eating Alex didn't feel to well and later found out that she had a disease called Dysentery. Soon after that Anna did some thinking and she found out that the people gave the Cherokee Indians bad food for high prices Alex and wouldn't survive through the whole walk
- 1 month later Alex had been defeated by Dysentery and died. Dysentery is a infection of the intestines resulting in severe diarrhea with the presence of blood and mucus in the feces. Anna and her dad were heartbroken but they knew that this time would come
