  • Jonas's assignment is to be the next Receiver of Memory. He gets to know what it was like before everything changed and how people lived. The Receiver of Memory now is transmitting his memories to Jonas so he has them.
  • Since Jonas is the Receiver of Memories he has to follow eight rules. He finds that rule number 8 and rule 6 disturb him. But the rest of the rules are easy to follow for him.
  • One difference would be that the giver has a lock on his door, but the other houses don't because they don't need to have it. Another thing that is different is inside it is very luxurious compared to the other houses. The last difference would be that he has tons of books, like a library, but the other house only have 2 books that are necessary to have.
  • The first memory is the memory of snow. The second memory is of sunshine, and the third is sunburn
  • The people cannot make decisions because if they did then everything would be different. They could choose weather to wear a blue top or red. They wanted a  society where everything is the same.
  • The seeing beyond is what happens to Jonas when he sees colors. When he saw that Fiona hair was changing to red, or when he saw the color red on the apple.
