Storyboard Text

  • But the future of plastics in our ocean will be determined by the way we handle plastics on land.
  • We need to formulate a plan, even if it starts with just us, 5 useless teenagers.
  • So much of this plastic is ending up in the ocean that in just a few years, we might end up with a pound of plastic for every three pounds of fish in the sea.
  • Many of the plastics you touch in your daily life are used only once and thrown away.
  • Plastic touches all of our lives, from the food packaging we buy to the computers we work with and the cars we drive
  •  The toxins from the plastics have entered the food chain, threatening not just marine life, but human health.
  • Plastic itself isn't the issue; it does not just jump into the ocean on its own. Careless and lazy humans are the cause of plastic materials in the ocean.
  • Yeah, fish and wildlife are becoming intoxicated.
  • Littering and overflowing landfills are major contributors to plastic in the ocean.
  • Over a few decades, humans have managed to dump tons upon tons of garbage into the ocean
  • How about we organize an event to bring awareness to the issue and raise funds to take a trip to the ocean and explore the issue and solutions to it?
  • Great idea Olivia! Let’s get started as soon as possible.
  • That’s a great idea!
  • Perhaps… in the future, we could even start a group to remove plastic regularly, even if it’s just in our little section of the beach.
  • I’m definitely up for that, we’ll gather ideas.
