The Santa Fe Railroad was the first company to start opening railroads in the New Mexico territory, it started in southern NM then spread up to the northern part of the territory. Because of this new railroad, people came from all around to live in the NM territory, and also came job opportunities. New settlers were most likely to be employed by the railroad company, but it brought more jobs than that, it carried heavy machinery into the territory, which helped out mining, and farming

Boomtowns were small towns that sprang up overnight because of a single industry, something like mining, but after all the metal is all mined up, some towns become empty, ghost towns, but some continue to grow, like Silver City

The travels on the train made people hungry, but the food on the train wasn't good, or was very limited. Harvey Houses were located at train stops, where they served good food for fair prices. Not only that, Harvey Houses were hotels too.
The new train station helped people from all over the world to come see the NM landscape and learn about southwestern culture.
The wild west was full of corruption and lawlessness. Outlaws came to the NM territory to escape the law from other states, although, most of the people in the NM territory were good law abiding people.
