Storyboard Text

  • Factories and methods of transportation emit metric tons of carbon every day.
  • Oceans are often called 'carbon sinks'.  Water, especially saltwater, dissolve gases. , including CO2.
  • All of this carbon causes the pH of the ocean to drop, making it acidic.
  • Shellfish shells are literally being dissolved in this acid. This is disrupting food chains.
  • While  carbon may be beneficial for some seagrasses,  it is detrimental to coral reefs.
  • The great barrier reef has almost been completely destroyed by ocean acidification. If this reef dies, we will lose a great amount if biodiversity.
