Jessica and Owen were on the way home from a school dance when Jessica asked why the moon looks different on different nights.
The moon looks different because of the movement of the moon, earth, and sun.
See, the moon is in the waning crescent phase. Waning means looks like it's getting smaller. Soon it will the new moon phase. That means that you can't see the moon.
Sure. I can show you a diagram on my computer.
I don't understand. Maybe we should go inside.
As you can see this is where the moon is now. In waning gibbous phase The light is on the left. When It waxing the light is on the right. Crescent stages look like bananas and gibbous stages look like footballs.
It says here the next full moon will be on November, 4 and the next new moon is the 18th. The next Last Quarter and First Quarter phases will be on November 10th and 26. In October there was a full moon the 5th and a new moon the 19th. Technically the real is in a Waxing Gibbous stage but here in cartoon land it's waning crescent.
