A king lived in a remote realm a long time ago. Numatall was his name, and he was a righteous ruler with a gorgeous daughter named Sylvia by his side. Juluis, Sylvia's cruel brother, exiled her and deposed Numatall (his father) in order to take over the throne.
Juluis was afraid that if his sister had children, they might try to overthrow him as king, so he exiled her to the temple of Mars, where she would serve as a vestal virgin. Mars, the god of war, fell in love with her and soon after they had twin sons named Remus and Romulus. Julius became enraged when he learned of it and ordered the staff to break into the house and murder the twins.
When the servants arrived at the temple, they couldn't bear the thought of killing the twins, so they planned to cast them into the Tiber river, where Julius would be unaware that they were still alive. They made it to the bottom of Palentine Hill, where a wolf discovered them and raised them.
When the boys were old enough, they found a shepherd who took them in and nurtured them with his wife.
The boys grew up in the town where their grandfather, King Numtall, had been exiled, and when he saw them, he recognized them as his grandchildren and knew they would seek vengeance on his behalf. He approached the twins and informed them of all that had occurred. The brothers gathered a group of men quickly in order to assassinate their uncle and claim their grandfather's throne.
The boys planned to create their own city after Numatall claimed his rightful place as king. However, they couldn't determine where to build it. Remus intended to build his own city in Aventine instead of Plantine Hill, as Romulus desired. Because they couldn't make up their minds, they decided to create their own cities.
