Tybalt, as the third of eight children, it is time for you to support yourself on your own. I suggest the path of a monk.
Hello, you must be Tybalt, I am the abbot of this monastery.
Tybalt, I decree that thy can now begin the customary life of a monk.
Here we see a 15 year old teen by the name of Tybalt sent off to the monastery by his father. This was a common occurrence during the middle ages, as the life of a monk seemed very enticing to most.
Please. Brother, help me.
Brother! Why are you in such a dire condition!?
Tybalt is sent to the monastery. Where he must live as a novice for a year until he can adopt the customary life of the monk.
After an entire year of living as a novice, Tybalt takes his vows and stays in continual silence for three days. On the third day, the priest pushes back Tybalt's hood, symbolizing that he is now ready to adopt the customary life of the monk.
Two years had elapsed since Tybalt had left to the monastery and his oldest brother Urcil, who was transferring from another monastery, stumbled into Tybalt's abbey, begging for medical aid as he got sick on the long jouney.
Tybalt tends to his brother and gives him the medical aid which he needs. This is similar to what Tybalt typically does on a daily basis, which is providing medical care for the community.
Tybalt continues to copy the manuscripts of classical authors and religious texts. But is now accompanied by his older brother, Urcil, who motivates him to strive to become a better monk.
