Mom and Dad, look! A dead mongoose! Lets's have a funeral.
Mother: Perhaps he is not dead. Take him inside and dry him.
Darzee the Tailorbird: Me and my wife are very miserable. Our fledgling was eaten by a snake named Nag.
Nag and Nagaina: Hiss Hisssssss!
Chuchundra: I have to tell you something important!
Nag and Nagaina: What are we going to do with Rikki-tikki-tavi? Hisss!
Rikki-tikki-tavi is washed away by a high summer flood and is found by a family, along with their son named Teddy. Once he discovers one of Darzee the Tailorbird’s fledglings was eaten by a snake, he is approached by Nag, the cobra that killed the fledgling.
Rikki-tikki, the mongoose, and the two cobras, Nag and Nagaina, are natural enemies. Rikki and the two cobras face an external conflict, going against each other.
Rikki-tikki-tavi: I will crush your last egg, if you hurt Teddy.
In the rising action, Rikki-tikki-tavi finds more about Nag and Nagaina's plans to avenge Karait, the snakeling he killed in order to save Teddy. This leads to the climax.
Rikki-tikki-tavi: Nagaina is dead!
Rikki-tikki-tavi and Teddy's father kill Nag.
Rikki-tikki-tavi and Nagaina continue to threaten each other, and eventually, fight.
Nagaina: I will kill the boy, if you do so!
Rikki-tikki-tavi finally takes down Nagaina and his hope is restored.
