Siddhartha realizes he's lost himself and resorts to suicide.
"He saw his face reflected, and spat at it" (89).
Siddhartha saves himself and starts chanting Om and falls into a deep sleep.
"His sleep was deep and dreamless; he had not slept like that for a long time" (90).
Govinda approaches Siddhartha at the riverbank and doesn't recognize him at first. However, he soon realizes who it is and they catch up.
"You are Siddhartha," (92).
"Good-bye, Govinda" (92).
He tells Govinda that he is planning on making a pilgrimage, which Govinda questions.
"He had been full of arrogance; [...] His Self had crawled into this priesthood, into this arrogance, into this intellectuality" (99).
Siddhartha spends a lot of time thinking about himself and examining his soul. He is proud of his progress, and recognizes where he went wrong.
Siddhartha is finally reborn into a new version of himself. He understands why he had to go through what he did.
"Siddhartha was transitory, all forms were transitory, but today he was young, he was a child-the new Siddhartha- and he was very happy" (100).
