  • Catalonia is a semi-autonomous region of Spain. They have their own parliament, police force, they have their own language, flag, and anthem. 
  • 
  • One of the reasons why they want to break off from Spain is to have their own economy, they feel like they are carrying all the weight and held back by the poorer parts.

  • They wanted independence, but Spain's Constitutional Court said it was illegal. They also sent police to try and keep people from voting
  • INDEPENDENCE

  • NO DEJEMOS QUE GOBIERNOS NOS DIVIDAN
  • On October 27, they declared independence and Madrid impose direct rule and until this day, about a million of people  have taken to the streets of Barcelona to mark Catalonia's "National Day" and show continued support for independence.

  • The bid failed after Spain's Constitutional Court deemed the move illegal and Madrid imposed direct rule.
