The two characters ( Lennie and George) are traveling out of town in search of new work. They are dropped off south of Solidad to only find out the still have to make a longer trip.
Along the road George grows weary of Lennie's antiques like having to remind him every now and then of what they're doing out in the middle of nowhere in the first place. All because Lennie couldn't keep to himself.
Over a meal of baked beans a fight breaks out between the two men because George has finally had it with Lennie and his bickering, Shortly afterwards they resolve the problem and rest for the big day to come to them of hard labor.
