I want to turn ourselves in. I don't plan on staying in that church forever.
Have my parents said anything about me?
No! Stop worrying you have us!
Wow, I never thought of it that way. Poor Dally had to raise himself!
Johnny decides that he wants to give up on hiding from the police and living in the church while being anxious and scared all of the time. He decides he wants to turn himself and Ponyboy in. However, Dally and Ponyboy are both confused at this desicion.
We're on it!
We're in trouble!
Johnny questions Dally about his parents reaction to his disappearance, but is saddened to hear that they haven't responded in anyway. Dally then angrily adds that Johnny shouldn't care about his parents, as he has another family. He has the Greaser gang.
You're going to be alright kid!
Are we going to the Police station? Where's Johnny and Dally? Where am I?
As Ponyboy sits in the car, he think of how Dally is as hard as a rock and shows no emotion because of his awful childhood. Dally grew up of the streets and went to jail at age 10. Ponyboy then realizes that Dally is soft on the inside, and cares about Johnny's future. Dally doesn't want Johnny tio grow up with the childhood he had.
Darry! I missed you!
I love you Ponyboy! I thought we lost you like we did Mom and Dad!
Ponyboy and Johnny rush into the burning building to try and find/rescue the kids that are still inside. They feel the need to do this as they feel that they are to blame for the start of the fire, as they might've left a burning cigarette on the church floor. Ponyboy escapes, but Johnny gets trapped after the roof keeled ontop of him.
HELP! The kids are trapped!
Ponyboy awakens in the ambulance, and immediately assumes that he, Dally, and Johnny are all headed for the police station, when in reality they are headed for the hospital to be looked at, and possibly treated for their burns from the fire. Jerry, a teacher from the church scene, commends Ponyboy of his bravery and is confused when Ponyboy admits that he and his two friends are wanted for murder.
"WE! WOO! WEE! WOO!"
After he is checked out, Ponyboy heads back into the waiting room, and is ecstatic, and relieved to his his brothers, Darry and Sodapop. Darry's eyes start to well up, showing his love and care for his brother. It was then Ponyboy realized that Darry was only hard on him because Darry wanted him to have a good future. Darry was soft then, because he was scared of losing another loved one.
