  • Climax
  • The townspeople gather in the square, away from the pile of rocks in the corner. They wait for Mr. Summers to arrive and begin the Lottery.
  • Falling Action
  • Mr. Summers arrives, followed by Mr. Graves. He has the black box with him, and he begins the Lottery after making sure someone from each family is present.
  • Resolution
  • The Lottery commences, and one representative from each family goes up to the box and draws a folded slip of paper. Everyone keeps them closed and waits until everyone has gotten a piece of paper.
  • Situational Irony
  • BOO!!!
  •  Once everyone has drawn a paper, they all look at their papers, and realize that Bill Hutchinson has the paper with the dot. Mr. Summers gets everyone's papers and shuffles five of them in the box again, one for each member of the Hutchinson family.
  • Tessie Hutchinson draws the paper with the black dot, and the townspeople, including her children, start taking stones from the pile in the corner of the square. They begin throwing them at her, and she runs away as they chase her with stones.
  • You'd expect a ghost to scare a person, but it's ironic when someone scares a ghost.
  • AAAA!!!
