Duncan praises Macbeth, but turns around and appoints Malcolm as heir to the throne. Macbeth considers killing both Duncan and Malcolm to get the throne.
The three witches are introduced. Macbeth and Banquo meet the witches; They greet Macbeth as Thane of Glamis, tell him that he will be Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland, and they tell Banquo that he will be the father of kings. (“Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none / So all hail, Macbeth and Banquo!” (1.3.67-69)
Duncan praises Macbeth’s castle and thanks him, and Macbeth reconsiders killing him
