  • In 1816 Shaka, the Zulu chief used highly disciplined warriors to try and keep the British from invading their territory.  
  • India was called "Jewel in the Crown" by the British in 1850 due to its raw materials for making goods.
  • The Sepoy Mutiny was the rebellion of the Sepoys against the British due mostly to rumors in 1857.
  • Europeans at first only controlled 10% of Africa's land in 1880 but when realizing how much power and wealth they could get from imperializing its land they begain to try and take over more of Africa.
  • The Suez Canal opened in 1869 which connected the Mediterranean and Red Sea allowing for easier transportation when delivering goods to different regions.
  • The Berlin Conference was when 14 different colonies came together to prevent conflict over Africa in 1884.
