Why were longhorn cattle important to the Texas cattle industry? In the 1800’s the longhorns appeared in Texas. They were important to the Texas cattle industry in the 1850’s the most. The reason for that was because, when the civil war broke out the demand for Texas beef increased rapidly. The Confederate army needed to feed the troops!!
What was the significance of the strike at Spindletop? Anthony started drilling. At about 575 feet Lucas found some traces of oil but, there equipment wasn’t strong enough! They got new equipment, and kept drilling. Then, and giant plume of oil shooting into the air could be seen about 10 miles away. The word quickly spread. The Spindletop strike marked the beginning of the Texas oil boom and the age of oil in Texas.
What are some advantages of railroads over other types of transportation in Texas? The state’s economic development had been slowed by its transportation problems. Rivers were eathier to shallow or too unreliable for shipping goods. Railroads promised cheap, fast and reliable transportation!!
