- [screaming and fighting for his life as he is dragged to the plaza's center, where he will be shot] I didn't do it!! Why are you acting like slaves to these Spaniards? Why would you betray your own countryman? It was not done by me! I could never pull off such a stunt! Please believe me! [The Spaniards mocked Juan as they stood proudly] [With his last breath, Juan cries out for Maria, and he is shot]
- Juan, oh, Juan! What exactly happened to you? [cries out] Why didn't you look after him? Why did he have to perish? Tell me what he did to deserve to be killed.
- NARRATOR: Because they were afraid of Maria, Captain Lara and Joselito fled to Manila. When she found out, she cursed the two. Joselito fell ill unexpectedly. His illness could not be cured. Captain Lara, on the other hand, was summoned back to Laguna when the Filipinos revolted against the Spaniards' abuse. Captain Lara was assassinated by the revolutionaries. Maria never let herself be seen by the public again after that. When someone gets lost on the mountain, they recall the curse of the diwata. They recall Maria Makiling's great love.
- NARRATOR: As a result, these two masterminds framed Juan by bribing and threatening the inmates into accusing him of the crime. Everything went exactly as planned. Juan received the death penalty.
- Captain Lara, I agree with you. That inept garbage does not deserve the affection of a "diwata."
- Captain, you are correct. What are we going to do about Juan?

- NARRATOR: MARIA heard a gunshot and ran down the mountain. When she sees Juan, she pauses for a moment, and tears stream down her cheeks.She rushes to wrap her arms around his body.
- It couldn't be a Spaniard because we never betray our brothers. It has to be a Filipino!
- It appears that we have been duped! Our generosity to this country has been repaid with such unforgivable cruelty! Arrest everyone in this village who is Filipino! This act of terrorism must be apprehended.
- What is this madness?! Who started the fire?

- [whispering to a prisoner] You must testify against Juan tomorrow. Inform the authorities that Juan was the one who started the fire. We'll release you and pay you in exchange. If you don't, you'll be digging your families' graves.
- NARRATOR: What had happened enraged Joselito and Captain Lara. They walked away, exasperated. They mocked Juan and cursed him. It didn't take long for their jealousy and hatred to turn into an intentional crime.
- NARRATOR: As a result, Joselito and Captain Lara devised a heinous plan that will soon befall Juan.A massive fire devoured Captain Lara's cuartel one day, surprising everyone.
- NARRATOR: A large number of Filipinos were arrested and imprisoned. Inside the cells, the prisoners were also tortured. Juan was one of the captives.
