  • It starts out as one cell this cell has 46 chromosomes. soon after you will sometimes notice a slight change in the cell, the cell has grown a tiny bit. So now some time has past and you look back in the microscope, and see the cell has started to split in two but not fully.
  • later you come back and see the cell is smaller than it was when you left, but there is another cell there. both of these cells have 46 chromosomes.

  • The purpose of mitosis is to make more diploid cells. It works by copying each chromosome, and then separating the copies to different sides of the cell. That way, when the cell divides down the middle, each new cell gets its own copy of each chromosome. This process will carry on and on and on.
