Storyboard Text

  • I am glad to be away and out of this community. But, i am sad I didn't get to say goodbye to the Giver! So long!
  • Falling Action
  • My dad is not who I thought he was!
  • I am glad to be away and out of this community. But, i am sad I didn't get to say goodbye to the Giver! So long!
  • Falling Action #2
  • I can't believe we're doing this.
  • Falling Action #3
  • We're gonna die! We have no food!
  • The falling action of The Giver is when Jonas and Gabriel escape the community. First, let me explain who Gabriel is. Gabriel is a baby, who was going to be released, but Jonas escaped with him out of the community. The Giver and Jonas come up with the plan, but at the last second he finds out Gabriel will be released, and decides to take Gabriel with him.  Because the Giver gave him memories, he now sees in color.  The point of this was to leave the memories behind for the community to hold for themselves.
  • Resolution
  • There's something happy for us at the bottom!
  • When they escaped at first, Jonas felt happy and joyful to be out of the community, but also sad because he had left his friends behind. The longer he is out of the community he changes, he becomes fearful of what will happen next, if he will die, or starve. Some quotes that show this are, “ He felt surprisingly, no fear, nor any regret at leaving the community behind. But he felt a very deep sadness that he had left his closest friend behind.” This is what he feels as soon as he is out of the community.
  •                  Resolution #2
  • I'll always have your back, Gabriel!
  • He has no regret, happy, but also sad because he left The Giver behind without saying goodbye. Another quote, “ But there were desperate fears building in him now as well. The most relentless of his new fears was that they would starve.” This is after they have been out of the community for weeks. Those quotes show how Jonas changed because of the falling action. That is the falling action of The Giver.
  •                                                 Resolution #3
  • We have been freezing, starving, and afraid, but now we don't have to!
  • There really is no definitive resolution, because Jonas and Gabriel are heading into the unknown. At the end of the book though, they’re sledding down a hill, just like the one Jonas saw in the memory The Giver gave to him. Prior to sledding down the hill, Jonas and Gabriel experienced starvation, fear, and cold. However, they have a bond of love to keep them together. At the end, when Jonas was sledding down the hill, he was anxious for the joy that would lay ahead of him.
  • You don’t find out what is exactly at the bottom, but we don’t need to know. Jonas felt starving, hungry, and cold, but had the bond of love with Gabriel. When they go down the hill, Jonas becomes excited for what lay ahead at the bottom of the hill. Some quotes are, “ Gabriel had not cried during the long frightening journey. Now he did. He cried because he was hungry and cold and terribly weak. This quote shows how Gabriel and Jonas experienced starvation, cold, and fear.
  • Another quote is, “ He hugged Gabriel and rubbed him briskly, warming him, to keep him alive.” This quote shows how the bond of love comes because they are dying together. The third and final quote is, “ Suddenly he was aware with certainty and joy that below, ahead, they were waiting for him; and that they were waiting, too, for the baby.” This shows how Jonas was anxious for the joy that lay ahead.
