He's trouble, it won't matter if he's here or not. Trent just holds us back
Luke
Nick
Trent is an important part of our team, why didn't Coach say anything?
Nick
It could be months until Zach calls, you'll die of boredom. Play basketball while you wait.
Fine, I'll be your friend until Zach calls. Once he does I'm leaving.

Just like my backyard
On the walk home from practice, Nick and Luke were arguing. Nick states, "'Don't you think it's weird that coach didn't say anything about Trent?' I asked. 'You'd think he's say something, wouldn't you?' Luke looked off. 'What's there to say? You had the guy pegged. He's trouble. We're better off without him'" (Deuker 143).
Yes, Coach
Nick
Coach O'leary
You need to keep in mind that you have other teammates. Pass to them too.
When Trent and Nick were talking, Trent says, "Okay, until I hear from Zack, I'll go to your school and I'll play on your basketball team and I'll shoot around with you at night. But I'm doing this for me, not for you or anybody else, and I'm doing it for as long as I want, and not a second longer. You got it?" (Deuker 147).
Even after everything we've gone through, your still going to leave?
It didn't mean anything
Then don't come to the game, Just leave.
Trent got fouled and was taking free throws, his first shot missed and in an attempt to help Trent, Nick says, "'Just like my backyard,' I whispered. He nodded, and his next shot was perfect" (Deuker 155).
You were here the whole time, and all you did was watch?
Yep, I just watched
I don't have time for this, I'm going back to the game
When Coach O'Leary and Nick were talking after practice, Coach O'Leary said, "Yeah? Well, that's good. That's real good. Only don't forget about Luke and Darren. Those guys can score to0, and they get itchy when they're not getting their shots" (Deuker 160)
After Zach called Trent, Nick came over to talk. Nick says, "I swallowed. 'So the team, you and me being friends, all we've gone through, it doesn't count for anything?' He shook his head slowly. 'It doesn't count for anything.' I stared at him for a while. 'If that's how you feel,' I said at last, 'then don't wait until after the Garfield game. Go as soon as you can. Tonight even.' With that I turned and headed across the street" (Deuker 190).
Trent
Nick
During the game, Nick got a bloody nose. As he was sitting in the medic room, Trent came in. Nick says, "'I don't know exactly. I guess I had to see the game, see how it all ended.' I wasn't sure I understood. 'You mean you've been here the whole time?' He nodded. 'Almost. I snuck into the coaches' office right after the game started. It's got that little square window. You can see most of the court, and the score board, and nobody can see you.' 'And you just watched?' 'Yeah, I just watched'" (Deuker 203).
