  • There was a lot of tension between China and Japan for a while due to the Japanese poor treatment of the Chinese. This lead to war breaking out between the 2 countries
  • Franklin Roosevelt was president of the United States and heard about the news. He was unhappy with the way Japan was treating China and decided to cut off all oil trading with Japan.
  • On December 7th 1941, The US navy base in Hawaii was filled with many boats and planes. Everyone there thought it would be a normal day.
  • The Japanese were not happy that the US had cut them off so they sent over bombing planes to bomb their navy base.
  • The surprise attack from the Japanese left 2500 soldiers dead, 1100 injured, 20 ships damaged and over 300 planes broken.
  • 3 days after the bombing, the president gave his speech to the nation about the Pearl Harbour attacks and his thoughts. This was also when he announced that the US had entered WWII.
