The Point of View of this story is in third person because the narrator tells a story. "We remembered all the young men her father had driven away and we knew that with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, as people will". "We" refers to the townspeople in this quote, displaying the views society had placed on her. Their perspective.
The setting takes place in Jefferson, Yoknapatawpha County Mississippi in the 1930's. The story took place at Emily's creepy old house in a neighborhood full of new updated houses. Emily's house was often looked at by the town's people due to its lack of sanitation and upkeep. "Only Miss Emily's house was left, lifting its stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and gasoline pumps- an eyesore among eyesores."
There are several themes to this short story. Physical and emotional isolation, Memory and the Past, Compassion and Forgiveness, Dark and Despair and Love. I believe the biggest theme is physical and emotional isolation because Emily isolated herself from the rest of the world because of the underlying depression due to the passing of her father.
