I am the Giver. I have memories of what happened before The Sameness. The Sameness was the decision to make everything the same. Every color was destroyed. Me and the Receiver are the only ones that can see colors.
I am the main character in The Giver. I am 12 years old. I am learning how to be The Receiver.
The setting contributes to the text because in The Community, there is no color, pain, or feelings. The Giver and The Receiverare the only people to actually know pain and hunger and hate and anger.
It is set in a dystopian future in the year 2064 in a town called The Community.
The conflict is that the government has gotten rid of color, but I can see little flashes colors. It wouldn't be so bad, but nobody else can see colors. Then, I become The Receiver. The Receiver and the Giver are the only people can see colors and hear music.
I'm leaving The Community for good so that they can see that what they are doing is wrong. When I get out of the Community, all the memories I've been given will flood back in.
After a week or so of walking I arrived at the top of a snowy hill. Using one of my memories, I found this red sled. I rode it down and saw a house with a christmas tree.
The theme is that controlling governments never win.
