- The third estate should not be the only ones who have to pay taxes!
- We want equality!!
- The time of the French Revolution was a time where many things changed for the country of France. These changes included the fall of the monarchy, the death of thousands of people, and the rise of the Republic.
- The king at the time of the revolution was King Louis XIV along with his wife, Marie Antoinette. Louis put the country of France in horrible debt which was one of the causes for the start of the revolution.
- Death to the King!
- Due to the debt in France, taxes were raised and had to be paid for by the 3rd estate only. This along with an awful famine in 1789 led to the people creating a new government called The Constitutional Monarchy.
- However, the king did not like the idea of a constitutional monarchy because he would have less power. Due to this, Louis decided to flee France with his family, but ended up failing.
- After this, the people wanted a republic so, they resorted to violence. This caused "The Reign of Terror" to begin. Over 40,000 people were killed during this along with King Louis and Marie Antoinette.
- When the Revolution ended, there was a new social order, new government, and the Catholic Church was brought under state control. There was also a new leader of France known as Napoleon Bonaparte.
