  • There are three main ethnic groups in the Middle East. They are the Arabs, Kurds, and Persians.
  • A religious group is a group of people that share a common belief. Islam is an example of a religion.
  • An ethnic group is a group of people who identify themselves through a common heritage. Arabs are an example of an ethnic group. 
  • I am an Arab. Arabs speak Arabic and mainly practice Sunni Islam.
  • Arabs are Semitic groups of people who can trace their roots to the Arabian Peninsula.
  • Arabs compromise mainly all of the Middle East and Northern Africa.
  • I am Persian. Persians speak Farsi and mainly practice Shi'a Islam.
  • Persians originated from a group of Indo-European nomadic people who migrated to southern Iran around 1000 BCE.
  • Persians mainly live in Iran. We also live in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
  • Persians controlled and are remnants of the Persian Empire.
  • We're Kurds. Kurds speak Kurdish and practice Sunni Islam.
  • The prehistory and origin of the Kurdish people is poorly known. All that is really known is that they have inhabited the same region for millennia.
  • We live in a mountainous region called Kurdistan. It borders Iraq and other countries.
  • An ethnic group can be also described as a clan, family, kinship, tribe etc.
  • Ethnic groups are based on a common heritage such as history, language, nationality  etc.
  • A religious group contains a moral code that governs and dictates people's behavior.
  • A religious group contains devotional ritual observances.
