  • Rising Action (cont.)
  • Go through the skylight...
  • While Scoot was under the deck, Sully saw a huge rouge wave come and flip the boat. "But a split second before it lifted the boat like a carpenter's chip, Sully sensed something behind him and glanced backward, toward the towering wall of shining water." Line numbers: 73-75
  • Climax
  • Scoot is now trapped under the water as the story grows more intense as the air pocket gets smaller. Meanwhile, Sully pounds on the boat to get her attention. "He began pounding on the hull with the bottom of his fist, waiting for a return knock." Line numbers: 164-165
  • Falling Action
  • With no other choice, Sully uses  'telepathy' to communicate "Go through the skylight", which seemingly works. Scoot then finds a flashlight, shines it, and finds a wrench. "He'd heard of mental telepathy but had not thought much about it before. Now it was the only way to reach her." ... "The unheard message was compelling: Try the skylight." Line numbers: 282-283 ... 298-299
  • Resolution
  • Scoot uses the wrench to loosen the bolts holding the skylight in place, while Sully tried to get the attention of a boat in the distance. She succeeds the escape, and reunited with Sully. "She pushed with all of her strength, and this time the window opened. She quickly pushed her body through and the Old Sea Dog released her. Treading water outside the hull, she sucked in fresh air and finally called out "Sully..."" Line numbers: 368-372
  • Another sailor finds them, who is concerned about the rouge wave. He then takes them to shore. "The Red Rooster's captain, Mark Stevens, asked, "What happened?" "Rouge wave," said Sully. Stevens winced and nodded that the understood." Line numbers: 333-337
  • The Sea Dog sinks. "The Old Sea Dog stayed on the surface for a little while longer, having delivered her survivors to safety; then her air pocket breathed its last and she slipped beneath the water, headed for the bottom." Line numbers: 388-391
