Storyboard Text

  • Man, why is it so cold out here? I'm shivering like crazy!
  • You're right - it is cold out here! But did you know that shivering is an example of a negative feedback loop?
  • What's that?
  • A negative feedback loop happens when your body is trying to maintain Homeostasis - a balanced state.
  • In your case, the body is trying to bring its temperature back up to its normal state. That's why you're shivering. Later, when we go in front of the heater in the car, you'll be too warm after a minute, and you'll start to sweat. That constant correction cycle is called a negative feedback loop.
  • Wow! Our body and its systems are amazing! Thanks for teaching me!
