Maureen and Debbie have been best friends for a very long time, and seemed to be inseparable. Until Maureen met Glenna... she was a big problem.
Then Glenna came along. Debbie felt like she was a third wheel that wasn't needed around anymore. They each took turns riding with Maureen but they didn't ride together.
Maureen and Glenna dropped off Debbie, leaving her stranded having to watch the car move farther and farther away. Debbie didn't feel good about this at all, but it was her house and her stop. She wanted to be the one riding with Maureen.
In the car Glenna asks when they were going on vacation. And her mom replies "saturday, but early so Maureen should stay over friday night." Debbie wasn't pleased with this and thought she was going to get time to spend with Maureen but she was going with then. She was again going to be without her best friend.
Debbie decided she wanted to get out of the car because she felt if she stayed she would just disappear. So she made an excuse saying her mom needed something from the store . Maureen followed her out of the car and Debbie said she wasn't mad she just missed when they were friends. And then Maureen said they were still friends and asked if they could go to the river.
They went to the river and and Debbie explained to Maureen that Glenna didn't want to be her friend. She said Glenna would be happy if she disappeared from the face of the earth with a poof of smoke. They both knew it was kind of true. Debbie did realize that Maureen wasn't just gonna dump Glenna, but she knew they would always be friends.
