  • Della's Conflict
  • I have an idea!
  • I only have $1.87!
  • That's not nearly enough to get Jim something for Christmas...
  • Della's Idea
  • My long hair is worth $20, that's more than enough!
  • Hair Parlour
  • I will sell my hair to get Jim his gift!
  • Della's Confusion
  • Oh darling, I'm home!
  • My poor hair! It was worth it because now I've gotten Jim a beautiful gift, but I am so ugly.
  • I really hope Jim doesn't mind.
  • Della realizes she doesn't have enough money to get her husband Jim a good Christmas gift. However, she the gets an idea...
  • Jim's Return Home
  • I cut and sold it Jim. I did it so that I could purchase you a lovely Christmas gift! I hope my new appearance isn't a burden.
  • Oh my goodness! Della what happened to your hair?!
  • Della comes up with the idea so cut and sell her hair. Because her hair is very long, she realizes she will make a good amount of money for it. She will use the money to buy Jim a nice gift.
  • Gift Exchange
  • Why Jim dear, that is so very thoughtful of you. It is okay that I cannot use them, I will find something to do with them. Now onto your gift!
  • Della cuts off and sells her hair. She is happy that she got a gift for Jim, but feels very ugly and is worried Jim will feel the same way. Jim then comes home...
  • The Gift of the Magi
  • Why, thank you so much dear. But I in fact sold my pocket watch in order to afford your combs!
  • Jim comes home to see Della's new hair in shock, but not for the reason Della thinks. Jim gives her her Christmas gift of high-quality combs that she had been wanting, which she now can no longer use
  • Well it's not entirely that... for you see my Christmas gift to you are the high-quality combs you've been admiring...
  • Della is a bit sad that she can't use the combs, but knows it's the thought that counts and continues to give Jim his present.
  • Well here, take my gift. A fob for your pocket watch!
  • Jim tells Della that he also sold his valuable possessions to buy Della's gift. This makes them realize that they did not have to worry so much about purchasing each other gifts, because the greatest gift of all is love.
