First nations began to trade with the Europeans coming to fish cod off of the Eastern Coast. They would usually return to the shore to refresh their water supplies and the bartered skins, knives, as well as other goods.
The Drive West
The french started partnering with the Ouendat and then they died because of the Haudenosaunee., except that sometimes, violance would happen because of certain actions. Ships would start unloading trading goods from France and sent them furs and other goods.
Monopoly In The West
The Hudsons Bay company acted as a middleman in the trade. The Cree, Annishinabe, and the Nakoda acted as the middlemen to just the French.
The British owned a company called the Northwest Company and they depended on Canadians and Metis. The present day place of where the British traded is Ontario. In 1763, New France became a British colony and that helped make more money in the fur trade.
The HBC tried to stop the Metis from supplying pemmican, and furs to the American's because they were scared they were going to do that as well as take over Rupert's Land.
