  • OCTOBER 5: Members of the FLQ kidnapped British Trade Commissioner, James Cross and demanded the release of imprisoned FLQ members, the publication of the FLQ manifesto and $500,000 in gold bars.
  • OCTOBER 10: Four armed men arrived at the home of the Quebec Labour Minister, Pierre Laporte and kidnapped him
  • Important government officials were protected by armed guards and relocated.
  • OCTOBER 12: Federal troops set up in Ottawa to protect the government officials and buildings from attacks.
  • The Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau enacted the War Measures Act after the request of the Quebec Government. This act gave the Canadian government broad powers to maintain order during chaotic times.
  • OCTOBER 16:
